Vintage Foundry Mold "Porthole" Sconce Light; programmable, with Candlelight and Steampunk Effects.

Authentic wooden foundry mold, originally used to create sand castings that would produce industrial machinery by pouring molten steel into the casting.

This mold would have been used many times until being worn and dented to where the defects would have been out of design tolerances in the finished product and the mold is discarded for a new one.

The wear and paint color on this piece are all original. The "distressing" and dents around the edges were acquired by its useful worklife; I lightly sanded a couple of edges that were splintering, then waxed the entire piece to seal and protect it.

I decided to make into a wall sconce versus a pendant or chandelier, as it has a porthole look. I added the socket, switch and cord, and metal grill on the back, plus my nameplate. The other metal stamps/numbers on the front were part of the mold; this is how the manufacturer identified the item and lot #s.

The light bulb is wifi connected and programmable, with these modes:
* Full light (bright)
* Night Light (dimmed)
* Candlelight (variable timing)
* Pulse (variable timing)
* Steampunk (variable timing)

It has progressive wake and sleep modes...

It can be a useful, "normal" light fixture, or when in steampunk mode creates random eerie flickering/dimming effects as if the power is being overloaded by the mad scientist. 🙂 (see video)
